What can you do with an adult gerontology – acute care NP specialization?
Baby boomers are one of the largest generations in the United States and expected to number 77 million by 2034.* As they continue to age, we’ll need more medical professionals skilled at diagnosing and treating their specific medical needs. AGACNPs perform a variety of tasks, including:
Provide long-term evaluation/management of patients with acute and chronic health care problems, both in the hospital as well as outside the hospital setting
Write prescriptions for acutely and chronically ill patients**
Assess patient responses to drugs and other ancillary treatments
Create effective care plans based on all relevant data and test results
*The United States Census Bureau
**NPs’ authority to write prescriptions is granted on a state-by-state basis.
